Dear Friends,

Thank you for wanting to learn more about Joshua Group.

The Joshua Group is a nonprofit organization focused on the guidance of at-risk youth living in the Allison Hill neighborhood of Harrisburg, through mentoring and the shaping of positive role models. Since its inception now over 20 years ago, The Joshua Group has deeply ingrained itself into the fabric of the neighborhood, working tirelessly to reshape and improve the futures of our students using existing educational resources, adding additional support services for academic success being realized.

We got our start in 1998, using the old Saint Francis School building and gym as the makeshift headquarters for our outreach. We were largely, then, a recreational program for city kids. As our programs grew, we recognized a huge chasm for our kids in their educational success - graduating.

In 2003, with the help of a handful of generous supporters, we restored a house on the 1400 block of Market Street and established it as our new base of operations. This new location on Market Street gave us a greater presence in the neighborhood and allowed us to establish a variety of new programs to include tutoring to fulfill the increased demand for our outreach services.

In 2007, we were invited to become a Program Partner of the United Way, thanks to our work within the local community. That put us on the greater community map. In 2014, we opened the Joshua Learning Center on Allison Hill, where we offer an array of “cradle-to-career” educational programs and services for now over 200 low-income children and families from the neighborhood.

On our website, you can read about those programs and services and, most importantly, about some of the young people who have benefited from our work. For the latest on our progress, see our Facebook page.

To those who know us and have supported us in this journey, thank you. And to new friends, welcome.

EDUCATION IS THE ANTI-POVERTY PROGRAM THAT WORKS.

Thank you,
